Needham is a town in Norfolk County and has over 30,000 residents. The Charles River forms almost all of the northern and southern boundaries of the town. Settled in 1680, it was originally part of Dedham. It was incorporated as a separate town in 1711. When Boston began the project to fill in the Back Bay with landfill in 1857, they got the fill from Needham, the area of the present-day Route 128. Needham is also home to the WCVB (Channel 5) television studios, as well as the transmitters for several other television stations including WBZ (Channel 4), WGBH (Channel 2), and WSBK (Channel 38).
