Charlestown is home to the Charlestown Navy Yard and the USS Constitution, which is the world’s oldest commissioned naval vessel still afloat. In 1775, it was the site of the Battle of Bunker Hill, although much of the battle took place on Breed’s Hill. Today, the Bunker Hill Monument, a granite obelisk, stands there to commemorate the battle. The monument was built using granite from Quincy, which was transported there via railway and barge. Charlestown has made it to Hollywood, as scenes from movies such as Mystic River, The Departed, and The Town, have been filmed there.
