The South End is a neighborhood of Boston and much of the area was originally marshlands in the South Bay. In 1849, after filling in the marshlands, construction of the neighborhood started. The South End boasts the largest intact Victorian row house district in the United States and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. The neighborhood has 11 residential parks and several community gardens. Boston Medical Center and Boston University School of Medicine are both located in the South End.
